Biography: Long time Yonkers resident, Vincent Vanadia, age 80, passed away peacefully in the VA Hospital in Montrose, N.Y. on March 24th, 2024 surrounded by the love of his family. He was born to Primo and Elvira Vanadia on March 16, 1944 in Queens, New York. He is survived by his three sons, Vincent (Vinny), Daniel (Danny) and his wife Theresa, and William (Billy) and his wife Rhonda, his grandchildren, Matthew, Thomas, Daniel, Timothy, Angela and Peter. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 52 years, Susan, his parents and his sister Phyllis.
From an early age, Vincent was a talented musician who learned to play the piano, the accordion, and was in his school band. He loved playing the piano with his grandchildren.
Vincent attended Queens College from 1965 to 1966 when he was then drafted into the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968. He was proud to be a veteran and shared his stories with his grandchildren.
Vincent used his airborne training to work at United Airlines. Then, in April 1981, he got a position as an expeditor in the Expeditors Division of IBEW Local Union #3, and later the Chairman of the department until July of 2006 when he retired and became a full-time caretaker for his wife who had Parkinson’s Disease.
Vincent was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church in Yonkers for 50 years, organizing many events over the years for both the church and the school. He loved watching the Yankees, spending time with his family around the dining room table, or in his family’s swimming pool.
Affectionately known as “Mr. V.,” “Poppy,” “Big,” and “Dad.”Vincent will be sorely missed by everyone. To have known him was to love him, and he had a special place in everyone’s hearts.
